ADN (Advanced Digital Network)
Advanced Digital Network Service (ADN) is a dedicated digital private line
service capable of transmitting data, video and other digital signals.
Exceptionally reliable, Advanced Digital Network Service utilizes Central
Office switching equipment and 24-hour availability of trained Telco
personnel.
QOS supports ADN at 56 Kbps for business Internet connections. ADN can be
used as a dedicated point to point leased line service or it may be used in
conjunction with the Telco Frame Relay network. Telco rates for ADN are
partly based upon the distance between the two end points of an ADN line.
For this reason, it may be more cost effective to use the Frame Relay
network as a method of routing to avoid distance charges.
For example: You are looking for a full time dedicated Internet connection
and your office is 1 mile away from your ISP facility and 5 miles away from
the Telco Central Office. It would be entirely feasible to install a point
to point ADN line between your office and your ISP as the monthly mileage
charges would only total 1 mile. If, however, your ISP connection facility
was 30 miles from your office it would be more cost effective to connect to
your Telco central office and use the Frame Relay network to connect to your
service provider. This reduces your monthly mileage costs from 30 miles to 5
miles.
